Last year my husband and I spent a week in Vegas together. I was 7 months pregnant with our second son; he had just come out of a head-spinning 3-day bachelor party for his best bud when I joined him. Needless to say, we were both looking forward to some rest and relaxation. So we fled the strip to the beautiful Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa. Location: The middle of nowhere.

My husband - my dear, sweet, at-times-foolish husband - broke his leg last weekend. In his mind he decided to "re-live his youth." In my mind, he climbed a tree. Already see how this went down? (ha ha). Thankfully it could have been worse. After one surgery, two crutches, and five days in hospital, he's home and en route to his usual self. Chances are when you were growing up you heard a lot of advice coming from a lot of people. Repeatedly. Things like “Sit up straight”, “Say please”, “Say thank you”, and my personal favorite, “Be good.” When you think about it, nobody ever really teaches us or asks us to “Be kind.” Our school system is set up to teach us what would seem to be all the academic necessities of life: Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, Geography, Science, History...
